Te Whiti Biography

Te Whiti-O-Rongomai was born in 1830 at Ngamotu, Taranaki. Te Whiti was in the turmoil of the Musket wars .Te Whiti was educated at Reminschinders missionary school in Warea. His best subject was bible studies. His farther ( Tohukakahi ) was a minor chief.Te Whiti set up a flour mill once he left school in Warea. He lived peacefully on the coast of Parihaka untill he was 35.Te Whiti was a spiritual teacher.

by 1870 Parihaka had the biggest population in all of New Zealand. The Europeans burnt down Te Whiti’s village leaving nothing left no crops, no animals, nothing.Then in 1881 Europeans began taking maori land and brutally hurt the men and raped the women  unfairly. Te Whiti ran meetings on the 18th of each month about the progress of the Parihaka movement. Te Whiti wanted to stop the meetings because he believed in peace and none violence but because he wanted to stop he was assaulted and put in jail, which is very mean and unfair.

A few days before Te Whiti got released from jail his wife died. Te Whiti was not allowed to go back to his land or attend his wife’s funeral to say good bye.The families of the other men in jail often died because of the poor conditions they were living in while trying to save there loved ones.Te Whitis time in prison was not all too bad as he learnt how to use European technology.Te Whiti kept protesting in peace but for this he was imprisoned again for six months.

Sadly Te Whiti died from old ageon the 18th of November in 1907.Te Whiti will never be forgotten and his change to Parihaka will live on forever.

Te Whiti is very insertional because he did not believe in violence and stood up for his village untill his death.He has changed 100’s of peoples lives for the better.

literacy- my goal for literacy is to get better at proof reading by editing twice and using a dictionary.

This is my art work on a piece by Cecilia Russel, doing this art work was very fun but also very hard and it used up lots of time in class, it was challenging but I am happy with the finished art next time i would like to add more colour!!:)

Niall Horan Biography

Niall James Horan was born in Mullingar, Dublin, Ireland on 13th September 1993. Mullingar is a small town with a population of 35,000 people. Niall has a mother called Maura and a Father called Bobby. He also has a brother called Greg (24). Niall went to St Mary’s Boys Secondary School.


Niall’s parents split up when he was 5 years old, he lived with his mother for 2 years then swapped between them for a few years but finally he ended up living with his father because it was more convenient for school. Niall was 12 when he started playing the guitar and is still playing now at the age of 18. Niall was studying to become a sound engineer but instead he auditioned for X Factor England in 2010. He got through to boot camp he then got out and was called back by the judges to be asked if he wanted to be in a group which is now known as One Direction. One Direction is a 5 person boy band that went on to come 3rd in X Factor.


Niall is a friendly, funny person. He was also the most devastated when they did not win the X Factor. One Direction won the best British single award at the 2012 British awards for their hit single What Makes You Beautiful. One Direction are touring the world, they are coming to Wellington on April 22 this year. They have become so popular that the tickets to their concert in the Saint James Theater sold out in 10 seconds flat.


We think that Niall James Horan is a very inspiring person because as you can see he followed his dreams although he was just a normal boy and now is a teen sensation.
